I’ve Come a Long Way in Two Years, Baby!

Posted December 8, 2009

It's been two years and a month since I launched my first "real" website.   I call it "real" because it's the first one that ever went anywhere.

I tried my hand at blogging and ebay-ing and etsying before, but all of it went nowhere.   No traffic, no visitors, no sales, nothing!   I didn't really have any strategy that I stuck to either so I guess it was pretty half-a%%ed of me to think anything happens without a plan.

If you know my story, then you probably know I started my How-to-Make-Jewelry website at the end of October 2007.

Look at me now, Baby!

Here's where I am according to SBI''s ranking page:

My Alexa Ranking

What's that number?   Alexa ranking is a way of ranking traffic and popularity of a site. There are over 100 million sites on the web, and Alexa (now owned by Amazon) aims to rank them all.   (Alexa comes from the name "Alexandria" as in "Library of Alexandria" which had all human knowledge stored within it. )

The Alexa ranking refers to where your site is on the scale of 1 to infinity.   Google is currently #1, Facebook is #2, Yahoo is #3, and so on.   And I'm 180,320!   Pretty darn good for a one-woman show!

And I'm catching up to Rena Klingenberg, Hi Rena!

Do you have a website?   Check your ranking here on the Alexa website

I checked my site worth on Website Outlook too, but that was really just more for fun.   I have no idea how they put a price on it.   But according to them, How-to-Make-Jewelry.com is worth....

My Worth (Just for fun)

Wow!   Is someone going to give me $14,600 for it?

Probably not.   But kind of fun to see. They got my ad revenue wrong - I make a lot more than that, so maybe I'm worth even more?

If you want to see what your site is worth you can click on the picture above to be taken there too.

Do you want results similar to mine?   I'm offering lessons using the same strategies, except we'll be building Handmade Jewelry Sales Websites!   Just register (free) on the right if you aren't already signed up.

(You'll get a free report explaining my whole strategy and philosophy too.)

Thanks for reading today!

Hey Christine

I tried to leave feed back for your PDF on how to get results... it went to a page that said "thanks for the feedback". I couldn't leave or say anything. I will say this here though, EXCELLENT report. Lots of it resonated with me, gave me ideas and made me think about how I've bee doing in the past. I highly recommend it if folk haven't read it yet. By the by, I've had FOUR sling babies. Wretched little monsters and all I can say is "Thank the Gods for the slings!" ;-)

HI Christine Thanks for helping us out with selling our handmade goods. I have tried both etsy, ebay and going to craft shows without success. People say my things are pretty, but walk on by. I can hardly wait to see how you can help us. Judy

Hi Christine

You gave me a ray of hope here. I always wanted to start an online business selling stuff I am interested in but everything else about running an online biz is too daunting. I spent too much money of stuff that don't work and no time to do whatever it took to accomplish on the computer.

And most importantly, I have to get out of the grasp of the office from hell.....I am crossing my fingers that this is work for me.

Hi Christine!

Kudos to you for your dedication, great info, and fantastic progress.

Glad to see you joining me up here! :)

Thanks for the mention!

Thanks Rena :) I would never have guessed what a difference two years would make. I don't think I could ever be as organized and prolific as you are, but a girl can dream...

This info is so helpful Christine. I find my blog, but none of my affiliate shops (like on etsy, eBay or prostore) even have data...a real wake up call.
Thanks for the links.

Hi Janae,

I'm glad you find it useful. When you start working your way up the ranks it's really gratifying to see qualitative progress.
