Do you have a Blogger blog and want a new look?   Well check out this site I discovered for some great artsy free blogger backgrounds.

Beautiful Blogger Blogs?

I was just checking out a member's website and I was struck by how beautiful her blog was.   It was a simple free blospot blog and i thought, has Google come out with new backgrounds? Google blogger backgrounds have generally struck me as not terribly exciting, but definitely serviceable.   And of the course the (free) price is right.   But I never really considered the backgrounds to be especially beautiful...

Here's a screenshot of the site, Gabriela Bijoux, the site whose background intrigued me so.

Isn't that background gorgeous?   I love how it's offset with the daisy.

Not a Google Background...

Back to my question.   Did Google come out with new backgrounds for it's free blog platform?   No, they didn't.

It was simply a background supplied by Shabby Blogs.

Seeing this site got me thinking...

(This is where I should note   - I have a head cold as I write this and the neurons aren't quite firing properly today.   Forgive me if this post doesn't quite "connect" as lucidly as usual).

It got me thinking about the importance of the website background for jewelry sellers.

The Importance of a Good Lookin' Website for Jewelry Sellers?

It can be argued a few different ways...

Should you make a visually gorgeous site when you sell jewelry?   Or should you keep it clean and simple?

Etsy for example has a very clean look that really showcases the handmade items that are posted for sale.

I like clean and simple myself, but then again a visually pleasing site could really grab a visitor right off the bat and might be enough to keep them away from that back button.   I'm not sure which makes more total overall sales in the end.

Just a few thoughts today from my fuzzy head cold head.

I think you might be able to do a bit of both if done properly. You could use some eye catching design work at the top of the main page (or possibly small bits around), but I agree the jewelry needs to be the STAR and where you showcase it needs to highlight the best part of that jewelry piece.

I like simple background for jewelry websites. The jewelry is the eye candy and a busy background will just distract from the jewelry.

Plain and simple web background with jewelry photos that are the star of the show is best, in my opinion. That way a visitor's eye is drawn to your jewelry rather than the background, and they're more likely to become a buyer instead of a looker. My jewelry photos use organic backgrounds that highlight (without overwhelming) my jewelry. I hired a professional photographer (Rick Dahms) to shoot my photos and have received many positive comments about how great my jewelry looks on my website. Buying jewelry is such a personal purchase, and since the pieces aren't available for people to touch and try on, beautiful photos are critical. It's also a good idea to have multiple photos that show the detail of a piece so people can get a close look at the design and quality of your work.
